I the last two weeks I have noticed the obvious; the political commentary has bubbled up on twitter. It has always been there but the DNC and RNC have amplified their occurrence. While we as twitterer’s have every right to speak our minds I have realized that my actions have not been lining up with my goals. Twitter for me is a way to connect with people that share common interests, primarily technology.
Their are certain people whose comments on twitter about politics have become too frequent and too caustic for my taste. What I realized last night is that I may be doing the same thing. Twitter like many online communication methods lacks the ability to judge reactions and the feedback you receive in face to face communication. I don’t discuss my political views with everyone I meet and I am sure you do not either. I am not a jerk and I don’t want to act like one.
With that in mind I realized last night that I should throttle back my political commentary or use another outlet to express it (My followers didn’t sign up for this). I have not made a decision on how I will publish my political thoughts, more on that later. Until then, thanks to all of my twitter friends and @kepford will once again be discussing topics that we all agree on like Mac vs PC, content management systems and the best open source software.
